Michael is a retired civil servant of Hong Kong Post. He was the tutor of their training team, who’s in charge of all trainings from orientation days to professional education upon promotion. When Hong Kong Post decided to promote the postal system and history through guided tours, Michael became their first batch of guides by coincidence. After his retirement in 2017, he joined Hoi Bun Heritage Docents Society and met a Lung Fu Shan Education Ambassador there. He then joined the team as well.
Michael: I moved to Kennedy Town in 1992 and have been hiking Lung Fu Shan for many years. I hike not only for the body, but to talk about things like history, culture and plants with my colleagues. This kind of conversation and interaction made me a more proactive person and brought great satisfaction to my soul.
If you want to visit the “countryside” in other cities, you have to take a long ride. In Hong Kong it’s completely different. You live next to the mountains. You arrive at a whole new world in a 10 to 15-minute walk, and could be completely indulged in the serenity far away from the hustle. I have been motivated to hike Lung Fu Shan since I moved to the Western District, I like the place from morning, dusk till night.
I studied arts subjects back in secondary school. Being interested in History, I got in touch with history tours in the beginning. But then I realized the urge to enrich my tour content if I wanted to take care of different participants. Other knowledge such as ecology and geology became indispensable. Although technology enables people to access vast information online, but they are merely information, the learning process is incomplete without interaction and communication. I have been an ambassador here for 2 years now, I can now recognise commonly-found butterflies and birds, I can also share the story of the Yellow-crested Cockatoo!
Being a history fanatic, Michael led history tours for local organizations after his retirement. The Tung O Ancient Trail stone house and the Hong Kong Railway Museum in Tai Po are two of his many tour destinations.

3-4. Michael is curious about everything around him. He doesn’t let go of any chance to meet a new friend or learn something new. He has travelled to many places in Hong Kong over the years. From Sai Wan to Tai O, there’s no place he hasn’t set foot on. 5. Tai O 6. Sai Wan Swimming Shed
