Black Kite Survey kit
Naturalists! We are asking for your help to survey the number of Black Kites! You may spot Black Kites all year round in Hong Kong, there are Black Kites migrating from the north to HK as well in Nov-Jan, very likely that you will obtain the largest number within these three months. The locations on the map are resting spots of Black Kites, they will gather at these locations 100 minutes before sunset, which is the best time for conducting surveys. Get ready now!
-
Print the Black Kite map, observation card and survey sheet. (A4 size)
-
Arrive one of the hot spots 100 minutes before sunset. (Browse sunset time here)
-
Count the number of Black Kites seen every 10 minutes, ten times in total. The largest number obtained would be the result of the day.
*You may use a binocular to observe the Black Kites. The observation card would also help you get an estimated number.
