A number of complications may occur after stroke, these include:

• Worsening neurological deficits

• Infections, most commonly affecting the lungs and urinary system

• Pain

• Spasticity of the limbs and contractures

• Depression

• Cognitive impairment

• Seizures

• Deep vein thrombosis (blood clots forming within the veins)

• Bed sores

• Heart attack

• Death
