DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG

Welcome to the Shin Group at the University of Hong Kong!

The Shin Group is primarily based on the University of Hong Kong campus in the Haking Wong Building, and the members of our group are associated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering. We are looking for highly motivated young scientists and engineers. Anyone interested in the field of Energy and Environmental Science should get on board. If you would like to join the Shin group as a graduate student, you must first apply to a graduate program at the University of Hong Kong and follow the graduate admission process of the department (Wait! Check out this article first. These tips would help you get started.). Dong-Myeong would be happy to discuss your future after you have gained admission to the University of Hong Kong. If you want to be part of the Shin group as a postdoctoral researcher to address energy & environmental challenges through designing functional porous materials, you will need to arrange an interview with Dong-Myeong in order to join the group.

Current opening

The Shin Lab is looking for highly motivated young scientists and engineers. Currently, we have openings for a Graduate Student who will work on the development of either mechanical energy harvesting devices based on triboelectricity, moisture electricity generator or all-solid-state batteries from Sep. 2025. Anyone interested in this project should get on board. Feel free to contact Dong-Myeong at dmshin@hku.hk or swing by Dong-Myeong's office at 7-06 Haking Wong Building if you would still like to discuss research in our lab, PhD program, and career in academia.
